We are basically starting with a clean slate and showing how much rain and snowwill fall in the West during the next day or so. What has already fallen acrossthe region is not shown on this map.Additional snowfall in the High Sierra (above 7,500 feet) will reach or exceed24 inches Tuesday night through Wednesday night. The mountains of SouthernCalifornia will get some pretty decent snow from Thursday into Friday whentravel could become quite poor over the passes.

Through the intermountain West, ski resorts can expect moderate to heavyamounts of snow over the next couple of days. This is not the type of stormtrain that brings heavy snow to places like Denver. The wind is totally wrongfor that to happen.

The map below shows liquid precipitation amounts for Tuesday night throughWednesday night. Using the 10 to 1 rule, 2 inches of liquid is equivalent to 20inches of snow in the mountains.

The excessive amounts of rain will produce flooding and mudslides. Central andnorthern California will get an all-day deluge Wednesday. Southern Californiawill be getting the worst of it Wednesday night and Thursday.
