Details: A city-owned property near Blaine's National Sports Center is set to host a new craft brewery and taproom.

Invictus Brewing Co., led by Blaine financial analyst Previn Solberg, won a conditional use permit for an 8,474-square-foot brewery building and taproom to be built just north of the athletics complex.

The site is one of two adjoining industrially zoned properties owned by the Blaine Economic Development Authority along 105th Street NE. near Radisson Road.

Invictus bought the property in December for $299,000.

The brewer's plans include beer production facilities, a taproom and a kitchen for on-site food sales. Designs from Hopkins-based Wilkus Architects show the taproom will seat approximately 200 patrons.

Also included are a bar with additional seating, a meeting room for up to 45 users and an outdoor patio area with additional seating.

Solberg told the council he plans to launch construction in late June while awaiting final approval of a U.S. Small Business Administration loan, and was in talks with Tasty Pizza of Hilltop to provide the food service.

The project had depended on whether the Spring Lake Park School District would buy the adjoining parcel for a new elementary school. When that did not happen by an April 30 deadline, the brewery plans advanced.
