A manufacturer is recalling shredded cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to an announcement by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Wednesday. Bekkum Family Farms LLC, of Westby, Wis., was notified that its Nordic Creamery brand Grumpy Goat Shreds were processed in the same facility as another cheese that tested positive for listeria. The recalled cheese was sold in Minnesota and other states in 8-ounce bags with a "sell by" date of March 10, 2012. "Even though our product has not tested positive for the bacteria, we are conducting this recall out of an abundance of caution," said spokesman Al Bekkum. Customers should throw away the product or return it to the store for a refund. On Thursday, a second cheese manufacturer announced a recall of shredded cheese. Its cheese was processed in the same facility as the Grumpy Goat Shreds. El Viajero Queso Cotija grated cheese was sold in Minnesota and Indiana and came in 4 lb. packages.
