The Gophers have scored more points against Iowa in two quarters under Jeff Horton than they did in three years under Tim Brewster.
Minnesota, outscored 88-16 in three straight losses to the Hawkeyes, holds a 20-17 halftime lead at TCF Bank Stadium.
The Gophers took a 10-0 lead before the Hawkeyes even touched the ball, scoring a field goal on their initial possession, then recovering an onside kick to keep the ball. MarQueis Gray scored on a 14-yard rollout, staking Minnesota -- which had not scored a point against Iowa since 2007 -- to a two-score lead. It was the first time this season that Minnesota had collected points on its first two possessions.
The Gophers also got a touchdown on DeLeon Eskridge's 11-yard run in the second quarter. Iowa senior Derrell Johnson-Koulianos has two touchdowns, one on a 7-yard reception from Ricki Stanzi, the other on an 88-yard kickoff return.
