Gophers women's basketball senior Carlie Wagner was named to the Preseason All-Big Ten team Monday by both coaches and media covering the conference.

Wagner, a native of New Richland, Minn., has twice been named All-Big Ten second team.

After combining with Rachel Banham to form the nation's top scoring duo in 2015-16, Wagner led the Gophers in scoring with an average of 19.1 points per game last season. She made a team-high 82 three-pointers.

Wagner's 1,597 points are eighth on the Gophers' all-time scoring list, and her 206 threes rank fourth. He career scoring average of 16.6 points per game is seventh best in program history.

Ohio State senior guard Kelsey Mitchell was named preseason Player of the Year by both coaches and media, and the Buckeyes were selected by both as the conference's top team.

Milicevic wins regional championship

Sophomore Stefan Milicevic won the singles title at the ITA Central Regional Championship on Monday at Baseline Tennis Center, giving the Gophers a sweep of the singles and doubles finals.

Milicevic defeated Nebraska's Toby Boyer 6-1, 6-1 to earn an automatic bid to the ITA National Fall Championships, held Nov. 1-5 in Desert Palm, Calif. Milicevic was seeded 17th in the tournament, surviving seven rounds from Thursday until Monday. Along the way, he beat No. 11 seed Maxim Tybar of Oklahoma State, No. 9 seed Ferran Calvo of Oklahoma and No. 2 seed Joe Salazar of Arkansas.

"One of my goals before this tournament was to be a tough opponent," Milicevic said. "Whoever I play, I try to be as tough as possible so I break my opponent's game."

Milicevic will be joined in California by Felix Corwin and Matic Spec. The Gophers seniors defeated Oklahoma State's Artur Dubinski and Lefty Theodorou in Sunday's final to claim the doubles title.

U's Rosado scores Big Ten honor

Senior libero Dalianliz Rosado was named the Big Ten defensive player of the week, making her the sixth Gophers volleyball player to garner a weekly award this season and the program's 12th weekly award this year overall. Rosado averaged 5.14 digs per set in victories over Ohio State and Wisconsin last week.

• The Gophers (19-2) remained at No. 5 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, which saw no changes from last week. The Gophers play host to Illinois on Wednesday and visit Rutgers on Saturday.

• Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team (20-1) moved back into the top spot in the AVCA Division II poll after previous No. 1 Lewis (Ill.) lost to Bellarmine for its second loss of the season. Southwest Minnesota State held the top ranking in four consecutive polls earlier this season. Concordia (St. Paul) moved up to No. 2 and Minnesota Duluth to No. 4. Southwest Minnesota State plays host to Concordia on Saturday.

• The Gophers men's team moved up one spot to No. 7 in the United States College Hockey Online poll after its third 1-1 weekend in as many weeks. The visiting Gophers handed No. 4 North Dakota its first loss, winning 2-1 Friday night, before losing 4-0 Saturday.

• The Gophers women's hockey team (5-2-1) moved up one spot to No. 6 in the USCHO.com poll.
