A former Brooklyn Park man who downloaded child pornography on a state-owned computer he was using while working as a consultant for the Minnesota secretary of state's office was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison.

Jeffrey T. Whitney, 41, pleaded guilty in November in Ramsey County District Court to seven felony counts of possession of child pornography. Six other felony counts were dismissed.

According to the criminal complaint, the Secretary of State's office contacted the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) on Jan. 25, 2010, about possible child pornography downloaded onto a computer being used by Whitney.

The BCA found more than 1,400 images of child pornography on the computer.

Whitney was a software consultant who was working as a subcontractor for Iris Consulting Corp.
