COMPANY RATINGS The following companies were rated highly by Consumer Reports and Twin Cities Consumers' Checkbook. The Consumer Reports ratings were from reader surveys in 2004. The Checkbook ratings are based on the number of complaints filed within Illinois. (The Minnesota Department of Commerce does not release complaint rates, but the nonprofit believes that the companies' service orientation carries across state lines.) Better than average: Amica Mutual, Chubb, Cincinnati Insurance, Hartford, USAA. Worse than average: Allstate, Farmers Insurance Exchange, Safeco. JOHN EWOLDT
