Scott Schulte's Hi Ten Service Station in Coon Rapids doesn't open until 6 a.m., but he's up at 3 each morning and has coffee brewing at the shop by 4:30 for a group of dedicated customers, characters and employees who often arrive before dawn. It's something his father, Mel, did when he owned the station, now in its 58th year. Scott, an Anoka County commissioner, figures he puts in 90 hours a week between work at the station and work for the county. He treasures the moments he can relax with old friends, who sometimes don't leave the station until 8:30 or so.
