A Woodbury Dairy Queen came in at No. 5 in the nation for the number of Blizzards sold last year on Miracle Treat Day, a fundraiser in which $1 or more from every frozen treat sold went to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
In 2011, the store at 7450 Currell Blvd. sold 13,767 Blizzards, according to manager Brian Lapinski.
The restaurant placed fifth in the nation and second in the Minnesota-western Wisconsin region behind a Dairy Queen in Mora, Minn.
Overall, Dairy Queen stores in Minnesota and western Wisconsin raised $200,000. Since 1984, Dairy Queens nationwide have raised more than $3 million for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
This year's event will take place Thursday at participating Dairy Queens. Proceeds will benefit Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare.
OAKDALE
Vein Clinic opens fourth metro branch The Vein Clinic has expanded into the east metro with a new office at 6211 Upper 51st St. in Oakdale.
The Vein Clinic has been studying and treating vein diseases since 1990. It has three other metro-area locations, in Chanhassen, Lakeville and Blaine, as well as locations in Duluth, St. Cloud, Hutchinson and in the Brainerd/Baxter area in greater Minnesota.
LAKE ELMO
Remodeling done, Inn is back open The Lake Elmo Inn has a new look after undergoing a makeover. The restaurant at 3442 Lake Elmo Av. N. was closed for 11 days earlier this month while new hardwood floors, booths, chairs, lighting and windows were installed. The exterior also got a facelift.
Diners will find a few new additions to the menu, too, including a line of 1881 Certified Hereford and Angus beef steaks.
WOODBURY
Grand opening for piano studio Sherri Nicholson will perform during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to announce the opening of the Discovery Piano Studio. Nicholson will begin offering individual and group lessons for children and adults this fall in the studio at her home at 3239 Churchill Court.
Nicholson previously taught piano at Musical Impressions in Greenville, S.C. She founded Discovery Piano Studio when she moved to Owatonna, Minn., in 2007. She moved to Woodbury last year.
Nicholson, who holds a bachelor's degree in music and a master's degree in piano pedagogy, will answer questions during the ribbon cutting, which runs from 10 a.m. to noon.
