The Zumbro is a gorgeous river with deep, forested gorges accented with limestone and sandstone bluffs. But there can be strong currents, especially in spring during high water, so paddlers need to check water levels. Also, watch out for tree snags. They are the reason the French called it the Rivière des Embarrass, meaning river of difficulties. Fishing and swimming opportunities abound and you might spot or hear wild turkeys. 651-259-5841.
