Whether learning to cross-country ski, snowshoeing or skiing by the light of the moon, winter is the season to head to Anoka County parks. Preregistration for the following events is required. Call 651-429-8007 or go to www.anokacounty parks.com.

Get your skis on Cross-country ski novices, 8 and older, can take instructional courses next month in three Anoka County locations.

Learn to cross-country ski at Chomonix Ski Area in Lino Lakes, 10 a.m.-noon or 1-3 p.m. Jan. 17; at Bunker Hills Campground Visitor Center, Coon Rapids, 10 a.m.-noon Jan. 31; and at Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, Coon Rapids, 2-4 p.m. Jan. 31.

The cost is $10 per adult and $7 for children.

Moonlight journey Ski by the light of the moon and then enjoy dinner by the fireplace. Skiers of all abilities should meet at the Bunker Hills Campground Visitor Center, in Coon Rapids, for the event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 10. Admission is $10 per adult, $7 for children with an additional fee for a limited number of ski rentals.

Snowshoeing fun Explore the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve on snowshoes with a naturalist on Jan. 10, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Wargo Nature Center in Lino Lakes. Admission is $4, and the event is recommended for ages 6 and up. If there's not enough snow, participants will go on a wildlife hike.
