Bon Iver's Justin Vernon may have bailed on "A Prairie Home Companion" for Jan. 14. But Andrew Bird and Laura Marling are coming to the rescue.

Bird, the whistling singer-songwriter from Chicago, has appeared on "Prairie Home" since mandolin master Chris Thile took over as host. Marling, 26, is a much acclaimed British singer-songwriter.

Vernon had been scheduled to appear on "Prairie Home," which is being broadcast from Chicago on Jan. 14, but this week canceled that appearance and a month-long European tour for "personal reasons."
