Tree frogs come to one of our bedroom windows at night, attracted by my reading lamp. Visits begin in June. This is the second year that the frogs, Cope's Gray Tree Frogs, manage to climb to a second-story window. They wait patiently for insects attracted by the light to come into snapping range. Sometimes they climb the glass in pursuit of a meal. The frogs usually appear when I am several pages into a book. I look up, and there it is or they are; there are two frogs on occasion. Last night a frog was there when I turned on the light in the dark room. There was no reason for the frog to be there, no light, and the west-facing window and its frame are certainly not a place to spend a hot, dry day. It is as though the frog made its climb anticipating my appearance.
