Four people were hospitalized after a dramatic crash involving six vehicles Wednesday afternoon in Duluth.

A southbound semitrailer truck approaching a stoplight on Hwy. 53 at the northbound Interstate 35 off-ramp intersection struck five vehicles that had stopped at the light or just started to move forward as it changed, according to the State Patrol.

The semi "may have experienced brake failure and was unable to stop," the patrol report said.

Four people were taken to area hospitals with noncritical injuries.

The crash happened at 3:43 p.m. The roadways involved were closed until just after 7:30 p.m., the patrol said.
