A woman was found slain and a man critically wounded early Thursday at a Coon Rapids apartment building, authorities said.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office pointed out in a statement that "at this point in the investigation, the incident is believed to be limited in scope to these two parties," suggesting that no one else is responsible for what happened at the complex in the 9200 block of University Avenue NW.

The woman was 34 years old and lived at that address, the Sheriff's Office said. She was found in an apartment.

The man is 24 years old and has no permanent address. He was found at the building's entry and was in critical condition at nearby Mercy Hospital with numerous injuries, the Sheriff's Office added.

Authorities have not disclosed specifics on how the injuries were inflicted.

Investigators learned that the two had "a previous relationship," the Sheriff's Office statement read.

Authorities did not elaborate on that point. Identities of the man and woman have yet to be released.

Multiple people came to the aid of the man about 1:45 a.m., and the Sheriff's Office and Coon Rapids police expressed thanks for their actions.
