A U of M student will demo an experimental prosthetic arm technology that uses a patients' own thoughts to control the arm. The breakthrough at the U is the use of external sensors worn on the head to interpret the brain's thoughts and translate that into robotic motions. Previous research required the use of a brain implant, which would limit the number of patients who would want to use it due to the risks.
