Sarah Burnham, the former Michigan State golfer from Maple Grove, won the Connecticut Women's Open in Old Greenwich in her first tournament as a pro.
She had rounds of 69 and 68 for a 7-under 137 total at Innis Arden Golf Club to beat first-round leader Elsa Diaz by six shots and earn $4,000.
Burnham plans to finish school next year and then attend LPGA qualifying school in August.
"This definitely gives me confidence going forward," said Burnham, according to the tournament's website. "I think I belong out there, and I definitely know I can hang with the pros."
Lindaman honored
Gophers catcher Kendyl Lindaman was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's second All-America team.
The sophomore from Ankeny, Iowa, hit .375 with 20 homers and 55 RBI. She had an on-base percentage of .532, with the help of 55 walks, and a slugging percentage of .832. Lindaman is the two-time Big Ten Player of the Year.

• Junior Terrin Vavra of the Gophers was named one of five finalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, given to the nation's top college shortstop. He is hitting .385 with 50 runs scored and 55 RBI.
• Gophers center Jared Weyler was named to the preseason watch list for the Rimington Trophy, awarded annually to college football's top center. The 6-4, 296-pound senior from Dayton, Ohio, made the preseason watch list for the second consecutive year. He played six games in 2017 and missed six because of injury.
• Tim Madsen was named men's hockey coach at St. Scholastica. He was coach of the Cloquet-based Minnesota Wilderness of the NAHL the past two seasons. Madsen played high school hockey at Elk River and college hockey at Niagara, where he was an assistant coach for seven seasons.
• Paige Bueckers of Hopkins made the USA Basketball Women's U17 World Cup team. The FIBA U17 World Cup will be July 21-29 in Minsk, Belarus.
• Max Murphy hit a two-run double in the top of the 10th inning and Brady Shoemaker a one-run single as the St. Paul Saints beat the Texas AirHogs 7-4.
