Playoff predictions Chip Scoggins already knows how this all ends:

National semifinals

Rose Bowl

Washington vs. Ohio State

Jan. 1 in Pasadena, Calif.: Washington will battle USC in the Pac-12, but behind QB Jake Browning, the Huskies have enough talent to earn a second consecutive playoff invitation. Ohio State is loaded with talent, especially on defense, starting with its line. Winner: Ohio State.

Sugar Bowl

Alabama vs. Florida State

Jan. 1 in New Orleans: These two teams meet in Week 1. The loser of that game must avoid another hiccup, but both are capable of running the table. Florida State’s strength is on defense; Alabama is always a championship contender. Winner: Alabama.

National Championship

Ohio State vs. Alabama

Jan. 8 in Atlanta: Ohio State laid an egg vs. Clemson in the national semifinals last season, losing 31-0 for the first shutout of Urban Meyer’s coaching career. The Buckeyes will write a different ending this season. The combination of a dominating defense and senior QB J.T. Barrett should bring Meyer another national title. Winner: Ohio State.
