An ambulance carrying a patient was hit at a north metro intersection by a car, leaving the emergency vehicle resting on its side, authorities said Sunday.

The collision occurred shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday at Hwy. 65 and Osbourne Road near the Fridley-Spring Lake Park border, according to the State Patrol.

There were no significant injuries reported, said Patrol Lt. Gordon Shank.

The motorist who hit the ambulance, 22-year-old Brett Tarr, of Bethel, was issued a citation, Shank said.

The Allina ambulance was heading west on Osbourne when it was struck by Tarr's car, which was heading north on Hwy. 65, Shank said.

Traffic lights in all directions control the intersection. Shank said still under investigation is wether the ambulance had its emergency lights and siren activated.
