Well, welcome for a final time this Lynx season.
A season filled with injuries, late-season additions and up and down play wound up on top Wednesday, in front of a franchise-record crowd of 18,933, with a 69-52 victory over Indiana that featured some amazing defense and some timely offensive play.
Sylvia Fowles, plagued by foul trouble in Game 4, rebounded with a monster game, nabbing MVP honors in the process. Rebekkah Brunson dominated on the boards. Anna Cruz and Renee Montgomery were key off the bench.
Here are some final thoughts on the final game of the 2015 WNBA finals:
--First, the parade. The Lynx will have a parade at 11:30 a.m. Friday. It will start at 12th and Hennepin, then make its way to Target Center for a 12:15 p.m. celebration.
--If someone told you that Maya Moore would score five points on 1-for-8 shooting, what would you have thought? "That we get beat by 20," Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve sad. But, actually it didn't really matter, and that's a testament to the depth the team created during the course of the season. Fowles was wonderful. Again, the guard tandem of Renee Montgomery and Anna Cruz were very good off the bench. Seimone Augustus had her best game of the series.
--More on Augustus. Frankly, she was never 100 percent this season. She missed a month after knee surgery, a month with a mid-foot sprain. But she saved the best for last, scoring 16 points.
--And it was welcome back Brunson. She had been dominant in the conference finals, but had been strangely absent in this series. Not Wednesday. Ten points, 14 rebounds, five on the offensive end. And she helped hold Tamika Catchings to 5-for-16 shooting.
--A further testament to how deep this team has become? In the Lynx's 21-8 third quarter, six Lynx players scored.
