Sarai Carranza spends her days lying in bed in a church basement in Montevideo, paraplegic and suffering from a kidney infection. Her mother Maria wants to take her to the hospital, but still worries about the thousands of dollars in medical bills that arrived in the mail after Sarai's last emergency room visit. Life has grown overwhelming since the family fled gang intimidation in El Salvador. A new program will help cover some of the costs.
