ABOUT THE EVANS SCHOLARS

• The nonprofit Evans Scholars Foundation has helped more than 10,000 golf caddies attend college, investing more than $300 million. Privately funded by the Western Golf Association, the scholarship is awarded based on four criteria: experience as a caddie, academic success, community leadership and financial need.

• The program was founded in 1930 by Chick Evans, a World Golf Hall of Fame member who won the 1916 U.S. Open at Minikahda Club in Minneapolis.

• The WGA currently funds 910 scholarships at 19 schools, including the University of Minnesota, at an annual cost of $16.5 million.
