Texas A&M 6-7 forward Davonte Fitzgerald is transferring to Minnesota.

The Gophers basketball team announced the move Tuesday. Fitzgerald spent two years playing for the Aggies. He averaged 5.3 points and 1.9 rebounds those two seasons, and saw his role diminish as a sophomore.

Fitzgerald is the seventh member of a recruiting class that includes Illinois State transfer Reggie Lynch and freshmen Kevin Dorsey and Jarvis Johnson.

Fitzgerald missed the final 10 games last season because of a knee injury.

Under NCAA transfer rules, Fitzgerald will have to sit out next season. He will have two more years of eligibility left.

Coach Richard Pitino said the Atlanta native's experience at Texas A&M will be a big boost to a young Gophers team.
