Michael Fiedler of Minneapolis called our attention to an old debt his wife was told to pay. Christine Fiedler worked at the Minnesota Veterans Home - Minneapolis from 2004 to 2007, he said. A state audit found she was overpaid by $35.70 in 2007, according to a collections letter eventually mailed to Fiedler. I say "eventually" because even though Fiedler has lived in the same house for 30 years, veterans home staff said they sent a letter to a different Christine in 2011, Michael Fiedler said. The "final notice " was sent to the proper Christine in January. The couple promptly paid, but wonders how much the state has spent in its effort to collect. What's the smallest amount that collectors have tried to squeeze out of you?
