The state awarded Minneapolis Public Schools' Chief Executive Officer Michael Goar an administrative waiver, allowing him to take over as interim superintendent in February.

The waiver gives Goar a temporary license as a superintendent in Minnesota until Dec. 31.

"I am pleased that MDE acted quickly to grant my request for the license I needed to lead MPS during this time of transition," Goar said in a statement. "I am eager to earn my full licensure over the next year in order to continue serving the students, families and staff of MPS."
