The St. Paul Fire Department recently received 13 donated automated CPR devices.

The electrically powered devices, called the Lucas 2, perform safe, effective and uninterrupted CPR, according to a news release from the department. That frees paramedics and EMTs to treat and transport patients. Each of the department's medic units will now have their own Lucas 2 device.

The United Hospital Foundation, Minnesota Resuscitation Consortium and St. Paul Fire Foundation donated the devices.

Fire Chief Tim Butler presented the donors with a Fire Chief Special Recognition Award on Monday.
