Know somebody with a passion for making Burnsville better? The city is accepting nominations until 4:30 p.m. Friday for its Community Builder Award.
An online nomination form is available on the city website, www.burnsville.org. Nominations can also be submitted via typed letter including the name of the nominee, contact information and a reason that person should be recognized.
The city suggests environmental stewardship, neighborhood improvements, and events and projects that build pride and spirit as examples of community building.

Dakota County
Local art needed for county exhibition
Artists are being encouraged to submit their work for the fifth Community Art Exhibition in Dakota County buildings.
The themes of this year's exhibition are "New Perspectives of Historic Places in Dakota County" and "Your Favorite Building in Dakota County." Any artist age 8 or older who lives in Dakota County is eligible to submit one entry per theme. All art must be two-dimensional and meet county guidelines, as described on the Art Exhibit page of the county's website, www.dakotacounty.org. Submissions are due Oct. 5.
The Dakota County Public Art Citizen Advisory Committee organizes the exhibition. It will review submissions and make recommendations to the County Board.

Apply by Tuesday for county park hunting
People who want to participate in controlled deer hunts this fall at Dakota County parks have until 3 p.m. Tuesday to enter the permit lottery.
The hunts will be held in November at Lebanon Hills Regional Park (bow hunting) and Miesville Ravine Park Reserve (shotgun hunting). Lebanon Hills will be closed to other park users during the hunts from 5 a.m. to noon on Nov. 2-4, 9-11, and 16-18. Miesville Ravine will be closed to park users all day during the hunts Nov. 21-29.
There will not be a hunt at Spring Lake Park Reserve this year because of ongoing work on the Mississippi River Regional Trail.
Interested hunters must apply online through the parks section of the Dakota County website, www.dakotacounty.org. Participants will be selected through a lottery drawing and notified by Sept. 18 if they are chosen. All participants must have valid hunting licenses by the time of the hunts.
The county offers the controlled hunts each year to manage the deer population in the parks.
Lakeville
Annual art festival seeks volunteers
The Lakeville Art Festival needs volunteers to help with the 13th annual event in downtown Lakeville Sept. 19 and 20.
Volunteers are needed to work in the Youth Art Tent, as Art Ambassadors and with the Community Art Project. No experience is necessary, and training will be provided at the festival. Volunteers will receive a free 2015 Lakeville Art Festival T-shirt.
The festival on the grounds of the Lakeville Area Arts Center, 20965 Holyoke Av., will have about 70 exhibiting artists, demonstrations and community art projects for kids and adults. To learn more or sign up to volunteer, go to www.lakevilleartfestival.org or call the arts center at 952-985-4640.
Scott County
Regional park closed for construction
Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park near New Prague is closed until May 27, 2016, while Three Rivers Park District and Scott County make improvements.
When construction is complete, the new facilities and amenities will include a maintenance building, trails, improvements to the beach and boat launch and parking upgrades. The park's big red barn, a remnant of the property's history as a working farm, will also be restored.

Shakopee
The Landing to host living history event
The Landing, 2187 Hwy. 101 E., will have a Living History event over the Labor Day weekend.
There will be costumed interpreters and activities, including interactive demonstrations, games, crafts and farm exhibits. Transport in the park will be by horse-drawn trolleys.The events run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7. Admission is $5 for children 2 to 17 and seniors 65 and older, and $8 for adults 18 to 64. Children under age 2 are free.
