A second person has been charged in the drive-by killing of a 35-year-old man in south Minneapolis early this year.

Authorities charged Reginald Myers, 34, of Burnsville, with second-degree murder and murder in a drive-by shooting in the Feb. 23 death of Adrian Carr.

Another man, Shane McPike, has also been charged with murder in the same case, after cellphone records put him at the scene of the shooting, according to court documents.

McPike, 36, who has been in jail since his arrest in late February, was indicted by a grand jury in May on first-degree murder charges.

Investigators have cellphone records establishing a link between Myers and McPike, and subsequently found that two phones belonging to McPike "had been within the area of the shooting at the time of the shooting," according to a criminal complaint. Investigators say Myers opened fire from a car McPike was driving.

It's unclear whether more arrests are expected in connection with the shooting.

The killing, the city's third homicide of the year, happened just before 4 p.m. near the intersection of 34th Street and Snelling Ave. S., the complaint said. A witness told police that the two suspects circled back around the block after spotting Carr and another man he was with, the complaint said.

Carr was shot at least once in the head as he was retrieving items from his car, and he died in his friend's arms, court documents say. Witnesses told police that Myers and McPike sped north on Snelling Avenue before turning west on 33rd Street.

Investigators later recovered six shell casings from the scene. Police have said that the shooting was not random.
