The St. Paul Saints scored five runs in the second inning off former Saints pitcher Luis Villarreal, sparking them to a 12-8 victory over the host Winnipeg Goldeyes in American Association baseball Monday.

Villarreal had a 5-0 record and a 1.82 ERA going into the game and was staked to a 3-0 first-inning lead. But the Saints came back in the second, with Ronnie Bourquin providing a two-run single.

The victory allowed the Saints (30-18) to take a two-game lead over the Goldeyes (28-20) in the league's North Division.

Etc. • The NSC Minnesota Stars (4-4-6) and FC Edmonton (8-4-2) played to a 1-1 draw at the National Sports Center in Blaine. Scoring goals were the Stars' Devin Del Do and Edmonton's Alex Surprenant.
