The standout back-stroker for the Raiders' girls' swimming team has high expectations heading into her final prep season.
"I hope to be Class 2A state champion in the 100-yard backstroke," said Kari, who finished fourth in the event at the state meet with a time 56.37 seconds last year. "I hope our team can get all three relays to state this year, too."
Here is a closer look at Kari:
Q: The best movie I've seen in the past year?
A: "Inception," even though I had to watch it four times before I understood it.
Q: Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me?
A: Dedicated, funny and loyal.
Q: Three songs I never skip on my iPod are …
A: ..."Rather Be" by Clean Bandit (featuring Jess Glynne); "Samurai" by R3hab (Tiesto Remix); and "Drop It Down Like" by Lady Bee (feat. Rachel Kramer).
Q: What is your favorite meal before a meet?
A: Steak, pasta, and potatoes. Protein, carbs, and more carbs. Perfect.
Q: What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete?
A: At state my eighth-grade year, our 200-yard medley relay ended up placing fifth. The moment we were standing on the podium is one of the happiest moments I can remember. It was my first time being on the high school state podium and it was made even better because of the girls that were standing next to me.
Q: Name one sport that you wish you could play, and why?
A: I wish I could be on an ultimate Frisbee team. Unfortunately, I have the hand-eye coordination of a tree.
