SAN FRANCISCO -- Twins players have been a curious bunch with all the trade rumors flying. The non-waiver trade deadline (3 p.m., Central) will pass moments before Sunday's first pitch (3:07 p.m.), and at least by then, we'll have some answers.

The Tigers traded for a good starting pitcher, in Doug Fister. The Indians shocked the world, acquiring Ubaldo Jimenez, after adding Kosuke Fukodome earlier in the week. The White Sox traded Edwin Jackson and Mark Teahen, clearing payroll, which suggests they've got something else up their sleeves.

The Twins insist they never make moves to answer something done by their rivals, but their fans would be good and grumpy if they just stand pat.

If the Nationals are willing to include closer Drew Storen in their package, it sounds like the Twins could indeed trade them Denard Span, but it also sounds like that deal could have some other moving parts.

If the Twins don't make that trade, you'd think they'd have something else lined up to address their bullpen. It's late, and I need to be up and at it early, so I'll keep this short, but stay tuned Sunday for more updates.
