Moen Ronald D. Moen, former Cottonwood, AZ mayor and U.S. Army veteran, Ron Moen died Dec. 2. He was 70 years old. Mr. Moen was born Feb. 17, 1931, in McIntosh, MN. He married Darlene M. Hilderbrandt in 1953 and was a graduate of Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. Mr. Moen served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and operator of a Standard Oil service station in Minnesota for 20 years before moving to Cottonwood in 1974. He served as president of the Minnesota Association of Petroleum Retailers. Mr. Moen owned and operated Gambles Hardware in Old Town Cottonwood until 1983. He was a partner in Village Furniture from 1980 to 1991. Mr. Moen served two terms as mayor of Cottonwood in the 1980s and was the first mayor elected by popular vote. He served on the Board of Directors of the Cottonwood/Verde Valley Chamber of Commerce and was active in the Arizona League of Cities and Towns. Mr. Moen was a member of the Clarkdale Kiwanis, the Jerome Elks Lodge and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was for many years the chief fundraiser for the Cottonwood Christmas Parade. Mr. Moen served as co-chairman of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Cottonwood and was a charter member of the Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church. His hobbies included family, boating, fishing and traveling with his wife in their recreation vehicle. Survivors include his loving wife, Dar; his two daughters, Terrie and husband Bruce Lerum of Cottonwood, and Cindy and husband Saul Quintinilla of Texas; his two brothers, George and wife Anna Moen, and Calvin and wife Flossie Moen; a sister, Dorothy Kay Moen; five grandchildren, Bryan, Stacy, Eric, David & Danielle; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday at 1 pm at Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood, AZ.
