Wardell, Roland D. 84 of Edina, grew up on the Ostrom family farm, New Sweden, MN (near St Peter), served as naval aviator, WW II Fighter Bomb Sqd. VBF152; graduated BME/ME, Univ. of MN; worked 31 years as metallurgical engineer/lab supervisor at Honeywell; delighted in marriage to Gladys for 62 years. Astonishing curiosity and breadth of insight: astronomy, geology, paleontology, archeology—vibrant mind to the end; unwavering honesty, integrity, community service; believed in laughter and hard work (planted 40,000 trees with his family); loved the outdoors and learning, but above all, loved his family: wife Gladys; daughter Becky (John Gaertner); son Gary (Bev); son Paul (Peggy Hickey) & grandchildren Carolyn and Patrick; daughter Barb (Peter Hodne) & grandchild Kerstin; son Scott (Barb) & grandchildren Miranda and Eric; daughter Jan (Bob Mars) & grandchildren Anna and Casey; Roland's sister Marion Wardell.
