John J. Dempsey

Dempsey, John J. John passed away peacefully on April 14, 2015 at the age of 74 after fighting a long term illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Jay Dempsey; mother, Nell Dempsey; and brother, George Dempsey. He is survived by his daughter, Lexi Dempsey; son, Todd Kenyon; grandson, Eli Kenyon; sisters, Nell Cramer, Mary Hadden (Tom), and Sally Dempsey Gordon; and brothers, Ed Dempsey (Pat) and Mike Dempsey (Deb). John grew up in Davenport, Iowa. At an early age, he excelled as a salesperson, which would serve him well later in life. As a young adult, John served in Vietnam and remained a proud veteran throughout his life. He felt and bestowed honor upon all those who bravely served their country. For much of his adulthood, John resided in Minneapolis, where he had a remarkable career in the wholesale apparel business. After many successful years, he retired in the Palm Springs (California) area. John enjoyed his life in many ways. He had a passion for golf and played as often as possible. However, above anything else, John loved his family. After retiring, he always looked forward to visiting Minneapolis because he had a very special relationship with his nieces (Kyle Dempsey and Kelly Becker) and nephew (Colin Dempsey) - he had his very own room that they referred to as "Uncle John's Room." Without question, John lived life to the fullest. His spirit and kindness touched many hearts and he will be sorrowfully missed. There will be a memorial on Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. to celebrate John's life. The memorial will be held at 3230 Rosewood Lane, Plymouth, Minnesota 55441.
