Virginia Rose (Schumacher) Prior

Prior, Virginia Rose (Schumacher) age 93, of Minnetonka, formerly of Chanhassen, passed away on Dec. 6. She was preceded in death by husband Carl Prior, parents, August and Rose Roesch Schumacher, sister Evelyn Engelbrecht and husband Bob, brother Ronald Schumacher and brother-in-law Julius Moehl. Virginia is survived by daughter Virginia (Ginny) Prior, son-in-law Chris Piganelli, grandchildren Kara and Anthony Piganelli, sister Constance Moehl, five nieces and a nephew and their children and great grandchildren. Virginia was a graduate of Eureka High School, Eureka S. Dakota and Washington U, St. Louis, Mo. Business School where she met her husband Carl, who grew up in the Minneapolis area. They moved back to the Midwest where Virginia was a stay at home mom to daughter Ginny and active in her sorority, Girl Scouts and her church, Gethsemane Lutheran. She worked in merchandising at Dayton's for 20 years and after retirement she and Carl enjoyed bridge, golf and traveling with their daughter, a travel writer, spending winter months in California to be close to Ginny and her family. In 1997, they moved to Chanhassen where Virginia was active in the senior community, serving on the Advisory Board and the Senior Commission - where she was honored by the Chanhassen City Council in 2012 for her contributions. After her husband's death, she moved to the Glenn Senior Living Community in Minnetonka. A lifelong pianist, she began playing for church services and sing-alongs. She also served as a volunteer ambassador at the Glenn. She was also active in the caring ministry at Gethsemane Lutheran in Hopkins where she was a member for 60 years and where services will be held on Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour before services, with interment in a private service at Fort Snelling. Memorials to ELCA World Hunger preferred.
