Droege, Miriam Emma Died on May 19, 2017, at the age of 83 at Trillium Memory Care in Bemidji, MN from Alzheimer's Disease. A memorial service for Miriam will be at noon, on July 7, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Plato, MN, with Rev. Bruce Laabs officiating. Miriam was born on March 27, 1934 and raised in Plato, by her parents Herbert and Martha (Beneke) Droege. She grew up in Plato with her sister, Vivian Krause. Miriam graduated from Glencoe High School in 1952 and from the University of Minnesota in 1956. She moved to San Francisco to work for Bank of America. She moved back to Plato in 1964 and returned to the U of M and earned a degree in elementary education. She taught in Minneapolis Schools for 34 years. She retired in 1998. Her Alzheimers necessitated her move to Bemidji in 2012. She enjoyed traveling during the summers and to her sister's home in Arizona after she retired. Miriam was a voracious reader and loved spending time with her sister and extended family. Miriam is survived by her sister, Vivian Krause; nieces Buni (Bruce) Slinkman and Heidi (Barry Lyons) Krause; nephews Brian Krause, and Hugh (Joanne) Krause. She is also survived by six grandnieces and nephews and six great-grandnieces/ nephews. Miriam is preceded in death by her parents. Memorial donations in Miriam's memory can be made to the Alzheimers Association (alz.org).
