Robson John L. Robson, was born in Bradford, England in 1907 and grew up in Livingston, Montana. He began his railroad career in the Machanical Department of the Northern Pacific, at the Livingston Shop, from 1925 through 1932; as a boilermaker halper, machinist apprentice, and machinist. In 1932 he matriculated at Montana State University and in 1936 received his Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Mechanical Engineering. He joined the Great Northern Railway in 1937 after a year's graduate study in transportation at Yale University. Mr. Robson held various operating and mechanical assignments in Spokane, Washington; Sioux City, Iowa; Klamath Falls, Oregon; and Minot, Fargo, and Grand Forks, North Dakota before moving to St. Paul in 1942. He was appointed Superintendent Motive Power in 1942, General Superintendent Motive Power (Chief Mechanical Officer) in 1949, and Assistant Vice President, Operating Department in 1958. In 1965 he was elected Vice President, Operating Department a position he held until he was appointed Vice President, Merger Development, Burlington Northern, Inc. in 1970. He retired in 1971.
