Jeanette D. Blake

Blake, Jeanette D. Age 95 of Hopkins. Preceded in death by beloved husband, Allan J. Blake, M.D.; daughter, (Katherine Plunkett (John); and son, George T. Blake (Katherine). Survived by daughter, Patricia Blake of Edina, MN and son, Douglas Blake of Santa Barbara, CA. Jeanette was very active in civic and community affairs. She was a 60 year member of the Hennepin County Medical Alliance, was a president of the Eitel Hospital Medical Auxiliary, and was a delegate to the Upper Midwest Hospital Association. She was president of the Hopkin's Woman's Club, and was a founding member and secretary of the Hopkins Concert Association. As a member of the Hopkins Historical Society, Jeanette researched and wrote a booklet on the pioneer physicians of Hopkins starting from the 1800's. A copy of this booklet is at the Hopkins Historical Society and in the Archives Library of the Hennepin County Medical Society. In 1974, Jeanette presented a proposal to the city council to develop a park in downtown Hopkins. She wrote letters and spoke before numerous civic and professional organizations to garner their support. She presented her proposal and letters of support to the city council and in May of 1974, the proposal for the development of a downtown park was approved. Through the years, this lasting legacy of a park has been the site for community events and concerts that are enjoyed by town residents and business owners and their customers. Jeanette believed that nature is the art of God and music is the voice of God, and a city park provides the setting for enjoying and sharing these God-given gifts. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 7 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at St Gabriel the Archangel Parish - St. Joseph Church, 1310 Main Street, Hopkins. Lunch will be served in the church social hall immediately following the service. Internment at St. Margaret's Cemetery, Minnetonka, MN.
