Arthur Andrew Blomquist

Blomquist, Arthur Andrew 80, loving husband, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, loyal friend to many, passed away peacefully after a heroic battle with Alzheim- er's on Jan. 12, 2013. Born in Mpls, Feb. 25, 1932, Art was a kind, gentle soul, easily sharing his love without question. In Art's early years, he delighted in keeping physically active, a Boy Scout for many years. He was an accomplished sailor. He loved water & down-hill skiing. Art graduated Roosevelt High School, was in the Naval Reserve for 8 years and took up printing at Jones Press, which led him to his 28-year career at the Star Tribune. Art was a loving & devoted son staying at his parents' sides until they passed. Art married the love of his life Doris Ratzlaff in 1987. They took up an active life participating in bowling leagues with many friends. Doris kept Art's mind alert with a spirited and, at times, nagging, nudge and banter. Art remained dedicated at Doris' side until her death in 2007. In recent years, Art enjoyed living in his home in Apple Valley, cared for lovingly by stepdaughter, Judy Ratzlaff, her son Kenny, and Daisy, his constant companion & lapdog. Thanks to granddaughter, Jondah too, for her help near the end. Preceded in death by parents, Arthur & Esther; wife, Doris; sister, Shirley Peterson; brother, Elroy and stepson, Jeffrey. Survived by stepchildren: Harvey (Karen), Maggie Teal, Jan Jensen, Judy, Chuck, Kris (Deb) and Denise Ratzlaff; sister-in-law, Elaine Blomquist; niece & nephews: Sharon, Karl Blomquist; Lyn (Becky), Lon & Lorin Peterson; and special friend, Harold "Red" Sweet.
