Mills, Merlin W. Born in Oakland, Iowa on May 4, 1922 and died September 22, 2008 in Sun City West, Arizona. He was the son of Laurence and Glee Mills. He entered military service Sept. 8, 1942 and served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Airforce until his separation as a 1st Lt. Feb. 7, 1946. On March 9, 1951 he was recalled as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force to serve as a pilot until Dec. 9, 1952. Merlin was employed by Archer Daniels Midland Co in January 1942 and he returned to that employer following both periods in the service. He retired in 1985, as Vice President of ADM's grain division, following 43 years of service with ADM. He served in many local and national organizations in the grain industry including membership in the Omaha Grain Exchange, the Chicago Board of Trade, The St. Louis Merchants Exchange, the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, the National Grain Trade Council and the National Grain and Feed Dealers Association. He was elected President of the Omaha Grain exchange in 1963 & 1964 and as President of the Minneapolis Grain Exchange in 1978 & 1979. Merlin is survived by his wife, Audrey of Sun City West; a son, Stanley R. Mills and his wife Rita of Lincoln, NE; daughter, Janet E. Ferguson and her husband, Ron of Prior Lake, MN; two grandsons, Stanley Richard Mills II of Chicago, IL and Joshua J. Ferguson and wife Mindy of Roseville, MN; two granddaughters, Brookley A. Rivera and husband Joe of Lincoln, NE and Shawn E. Ferguson of Prior Lake, MN; also one great-grandson, Mason; and one-great-granddaughter, Miley Ann Rivera. He is survived by brother, Melvin Mills of Cherokee Village, AR; and two sisters, Myrle Deatsman of Peoria, AZ, Maurine Armstrong of Omaha, NE. Funeral service will be at 2 PM on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008 at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, 13658 Meeker Blvd., Sun City West, AZ.
