Herbert Frank Herbert Frank

Frank, Herbert John "Herb" or "H J" age 85, sailed away peacefully at sunrise on Monday, December 10, 2007 in his Bayfield, Wisconsin home. Preceded in death by his parents and sister. Survived by his loving companion, Patricia Finch; his six children, Martin Frank, Joseph (Marn) Frank, Neil (Cathy) Frank, Anne (Mark) Lange, Tom (Deb) Frank, and Jennifer Frank; his eleven grandchildren, Melissa (Todd) Rieken, Jacob, Lucas, and Laura Lange, Nicole, Erin, and Daniel Frank, Maria and Aaron Frank, Hunter and Emma Frank; his two great-grandchildren, Ella and Andrew Rieken; and Iris Frank, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Herb was an officer and pilot in the United States Navy and called to serve during World War II and the Korean War. He then attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He combined twenty years in the Naval Reserve with a successful career as a realtor in the Minneapolis area. Herb retired to Bayfield and constructed a beautiful home and flower gardens overlooking Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands. He led a very active life into his 80s and enjoyed traveling, camping, sailing, hiking, biking, swimming, gardening, woodworking, architecture, the Packers, and a competitive game of cribbage. He will be remembered for the many things he built throughout his life: sailboats, indoor and outdoor furniture, wooden toys for his grandchildren and great- grandchildren, a strong family, and a host of friendships. A celebration of Herb's life is being planned for the spring in his Japanese gardens and teahouse in Bayfield. Memorials are preferred in care of the family to Regional Hospice, Ashland, Wisconsin.
