Kovar, Rita Marie Long time resident of her beloved Anoka, Rita Marie Kovar peacefully passed away Monday, September 21, 2015 at River Oaks Assisted Living at the age of 93. Rita was preceded in death by loving husband (John) Jack Kovar, her son John Kovar, her parents; brothers Maurice, Thomas, and sisters Mona and Betty. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend. Rita was born May 2, 1922 to parents Joseph and Alice Granfield in Anoka, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school in Anoka. Rita can be remembered as the sole cheerleader for the Anoka Tornadoes. Upon high school graduation, Rita dedicated her time to caring for her parents and her younger siblings while working at NSP and later the Civil Service at the onset of World War II. On October 3, 1942, she was married to Jack Kovar in Anoka where they made their home. She was a lifetime member of St. Stephen's Parish. Rita had many gifts to share with others. During her life she was actively involved in volunteering at the Little Sisters of the Poor Cancer Home, as well as many other organizations where she could share her gift of providing the sick and home-bound with solace and comfort. Rita was well known for her work with St. Stephen's Ministry, Choir and Church Council. She thoroughly enjoyed serving others in the name of Jesus. Rita lived everyday to its fullest; she enjoyed traveling the world with her husband Jack and accompanied him on many hunting and fishing expeditions; she was an avid golfer and a long time member of Green Haven Country Club. Her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children Patrick Kovar (Marie), Peter Kovar (Jean), Margaret Stern (Rich), Daniel Kovar (Jill); daughter-in-law Kathy Kovar; 12 grandchildren: John, Zack, Jacob, Greta, Jason, Jessica, Sam, Rachel, Nathan, Alison, Melissa, Derek; and 8 great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Stephen's Church on Monday, September 28 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Final resting place will be Calvary Cemetery, Anoka. Rita will be missed by many, blessed be her memory.
