Karels, Michael "Mike" age 67 of Eden Prairie. A software engineer and pivotal figure with BSD UNIX, a major touchstone in the history of computing and foundation for the modern internet. He was also a central member of his family as a giving and supportive son, brother, husband, and father. From an early age, he took on extra responsibility for leading, helping and guiding family members, always with kindness, stability and logic. Survived by his loving wife, Theresa "Teri" (Spartz); daughter, Sarah and partner, Ivan Munkres; sisters, Colleen (Stuart) Lind, Mary Beth (Brad) Schleif and Katherine Karels; brother, Eugene (Ann) Karels along with many family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Patricia and Charles Karels. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, June 18, at 11 AM at the Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie. Private interment Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation Monday, June 17, 5-8 PM, with memory sharing at 6:30 PM, at Gearty-Delmore Park Funeral Chapel, 3960 Wooddale Ave. S., St. Louis Park and one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
