Sharon J. Lubinski

Lubinski, Sharon J. Age 71, of Minnetonka, passed away April 19, 2024. Preceded in death by parents, brother David and sister-in-law, Joann. Sharon excelled in her career, enjoying 39 years in law enforcement, including detective in the Dane County WI Sheriff's Dept, 23 years in the Minneapolis Police Dept. culminating in her assignment as Assistant Chief, and a service of more than 6 years as the US Marshal. Well-regarded by co-workers and superiors alike, her achievements were many. At MPD she organized fellow officers to identify as gay to their Police Chief. Sharon was Coordinator for the MN HEALS project to reduce Minneapolis homicides. Committed to community policing she worked on issues of community concern with Indigenous, Somali, Hmong and African American communities. Possessed of a commitment to be of service whether on duty or not, Sharon played an important role for MPD during the 35W bridge collapse. As the first female US Marshal to serve the MN District she brought all her considerable law enforcement skills, experience and insight to the job for the good of all. A strong leader and determined person, Sharon brought values of compassion, appreciation, respect, non-judgement, kindness and happiness into all aspects of her life, work and play. She manifested these values while living and speaking with others, even during times of conflict. Sharon retired in 2016 to travel, enjoy family and friends and continue her love of opera, running, astronomy and nature. A romantic, loving spouse and wonderful friend, she was funny, caring and cooperative. Sharon is survived by her spouse of 38 years, Fran; brother Travis and sister Toni; many relatives and friends. Family was with Sharon as she passed, her life ending too soon. Sharon's smile, humor and kindness will be sorely missed by all.
