Whatley, Peter John of Little Canada, MN passed away on February 19, 2024 at the age of 81 following a fall. He was born May 1, 1942 in Cheltenham, England the only child of Hubert Edward Whatley and Phyllis Lord Whatley (nee Hunter) who preceded him in death. Also survived by mother-in-law, Dolores McGuire. Peter attended Bracken Hill House and Ranelagh Schools in Cheltenham, England and received the American equivalent of a BSME degree from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers-London with post-graduate work in Industrial Administration Oxford College of Technology. Peter maintained great friendships with many of his classmates following his emigration to the US in 1967 until his death. Peter became an American citizen in 1983 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. His gifts were many but his kindness, steadfastness, and his tremendous sense of humor were special and drew people to him. Peter loved people, all people, foremost of all his family. English accents from Cockney, the Beatles and of course the Royals provided many delights for his children and grandchildren and his wonderful voice served him well as a liturgist at church. He was an avid modeler of British Railway OO gauge trains having been a dedicated train spotter as a child and young man. Peter had a wonderful career in International Sales and Marketing in the Air Conditioning Equipment industry for over 30 years including the International Division of Trane Company in LaCrosse for 12 years, followed by 20 years with Mammoth, Inc. in Minneapolis as International Sales Director. International travel was sheer joy to him and brought so much insight and global perspective to his family as well. Following his retirement in 2007, Peter turned to gardening at home and church, volunteering, woodworking, and supporting all his children and grandchildren in their pursuits. He loved attending their sporting events, cheering on the teams, and attending dance and music recitals. His love of travel was able to be continued as well with several wonderful trips to Europe, Costa Rica and within the US. All in all, Peter had a "Jolly Good Life"-well deserved. He is sorely missed. Family and friends are invited to Peter's Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 2 pm at St. Luke Presbyterian Church, Minnetonka, MN, stluke.mn.
