Ehlen, Donald Martin 2/22/1937 - 5/23/23 Donald Ehlen (age 86) from Wadena, MN, passed away peacefully of natural causes on 5/23/23. Donald (Don), fondly known as Donsey was the oldest of 4 boys born to parents Albert and Clara Ehlen of Wadena and Alexandria, MN. After Donald graduated from Wadena High School he went on to pursue an accounting degree at the University of Minnesota. Donald enjoyed an interesting career working for Kimberly Clark and Simpson Timber and Lumber Cos. His work led him to working and living in Mexico City, California, and Wisconsin with his wife and 3 children. His work also led him to travel throughout Central America and the United States. Don chose a sunny retirement in Florida on the Gulf of Mexico with family, friends and many visitors. He loved being by the water, fishing and boating. Don was known for his kindness and empathy for people. He also had a great sense of humor and quick wit. His smile will be dearly missed. Don is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Clara Ehlen, brothers Jerome and Thomas, and his beloved dog Maddie. He is survived by his 3 children, Michael, Sara and Kristine, daughter in law Roberta, granddaughter Andie, 2 great grand children, 12 nieces and nephews, and many extended family members and great friends. A special thanks to family, friends and caregivers who helped Don navigate the experience of aging in more fragile health. Don was blessed with kindness and good care in his later years preceding his passing. Don is home with his Heavenly Father and blessed with divine peace. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023 with visitation beginning at 2:00 pm and services at 3:00 pm. The celebration will be held at Washburn-McReavy Bloomington Chapel, located on 2300 W. Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington MN 55431. Donald was an animal lover and especially dogs. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Animal Humane Society or local shelter preferred.
