Young, John R. age 93, passed away from Parkinson's Disease on March 5th, 2023, peacefully at home and surrounded by family. John was born on April 9th, 1929, to John and Ebba (Samuelson) Young. John graduated University High School in 1947 and the University of Minnesota in 1952. He was a member of the M Club (swimming), and he won the annual Lake City three mile swim two years in a row. He worked as a social worker for 23 years at Hennepin County. He enjoyed reading, especially biographies, as well as hunting and hiking. John was a gentle gentleman who was adored by all his children and grandchildren. He never missed a Christmas Eve reading the Night Before Christmas to the family. He was a sweet man, a good listener, and a great cook. John was preceded in death by brother William J. Young, sister Rosemary E. Carvallo, stepson Craig Anderson, stepdaughter Mary Helen Becker, and first wife Mary Anderson. John is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Marilyn, his cherished daughter Jeanne Dietrich, stepsons Mike Simerson and Jack Simerson, stepdaughters Margaret Schultz, Pat Simerson-Wallfred, Florence Manley, and Ann Simerson, as well as 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
