Hoversten, Garfield Quinten age 96, of Edina, formerly of Richfield, died peacefully January 22, 2023 at Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington. Born March 11, 1926 on the family farm near Lynd, MN to Elias and Martha Hoversten. He was the last surviving member of 14 children. Graduated from Minneota H.S. in 1944 and Augsburg College after 2 years in the Navy. Married his wife, Bernice in 1948 and blessed with 8 children. Longtime teacher in Richfield Schools and later was a real estate investor. Garfield was instrumental in getting funds for the Hoversten Family Chapel at Augsburg. Survived by children, Ralph (Mary) Hoversten, Linda (Allen) Teste, Elise (Roger) Larson, Wendy (Paul) Larson, Jon Hoversten, Laurie (Alan) Eggers and Nina (Bob) Welu; 18 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marge Hoversten, Eileen Olson, Barbara Balerud and friend, JoAnn Osborne. many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by Bernice, his wife of 41 years; son, Peter, great-grandson Aaron Harris; parents; 7 brothers and 6 sisters. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Presbyterian Homes and Optage Hospice for their loving care provided to Garfield over the last 14 months. Funeral service Saturday, Jan. 28, at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Lutheran Church, 7045 Lyndale Ave. S., Richfield, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment at Dawn Valley Memorial Park.
