Brooks, John Wright native of Minneapolis aged 76, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2022, in Castle Pine North, CO after a long illness. He attended The Blake School where he excelled in sports being goalie of the hockey team, catcher on the baseball team and captain of the football team. He later attended the University of Minnesota where he was an active member of Psi Upsilon. After graduating in 1967, when duty called, he enlisted in the Army where he trained for Special Intelligence work at Fort Holabird, MD and later received intensive language training at Fort Bliss, TX. In 1969, he spent 14 months working just a few miles from the DMZ in Vietnam. He received several citations including the Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal for his intelligence work. After completing his military service, he returned to Minneapolis and joined Honeywell 1971. He was selected to be a District Manager Salt Lake City from 1971 to 1972 and then returned to headquarters and held several senior positions in Human Resources. After his retirement from Honeywell in 2001, John was happy living near his beloved Lake Minnetonka where he had spent time in his youth camping, boating, and fishing. He then moved to Castle Pines North in 2016 to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. John, a friendly, easy-going fellow, was the quintessential "nice guy" who always had sunny disposition and a smile on his face. He worked hard, played hard and was always the life of the party. He loved to dance and never tired of hearing his favorite rock and roll songs. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce Johnson Brooks; daughter Katherine (David) Cullum of Castle Pine North and their children Miles and Megan; daughter Christine Rice (Patrick) of Walnut Creek, and their two sons Charles and Thomas, as well as sister, Pamela Brooks Perraud, of Houston, and sister, Diane Brooks Montgomery of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his father Wright W. Brooks, attorney and his mother, Gladys S. Brooks, former Alderman of the City of Minneapolis, and civic activist. John brought that rare combination of positivity and conviviality to everything he did, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. There will be a small private burial service for John on Saturday, September 17 at Lakewood Cemetery, and a celebration of life at the Lafayette Club to follow 1-4pm.
