Burns, Allene Ruth (Pritchard) Manning Allene Burns, of Edina, MN died on May 6, 2022 of natural causes, comfortably in her sleep. Services will be held Sunday, June 26, 2022 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Edina, 4439 W. 50th St. Visitation at 2pm, service at 3pm, with reception to follow at the church. and archived at the same link for viewing at a later time. Allene was born on October 16, 1933 in the back of her maternal grandparents' general store in Leader, MN. Preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ruth Pritchard, and her brother, Thomas Pritchard. Survived by Roy Burns, her loving husband of 32 years, daughter Stacy (Tony) Abena, grandchildren Parker, Mitchell, Mallory, and Barrett Abena, extended family Bonnie Burns (Mike Noble), Roy "Blake" (Cece) Burns, Barbara Burns (Joe) Churchill, Chuck Noble, Helen Noble, Nicklaus Churchill, Zachary Churchill, Haley Churchill, Keely Burns, and Kara Burns. Allene attended Macalester College, and was a proud "Miss Woods Girl" studying innovative ways to teach primary grades. She later earned her Master's Degree in Preschool Special Education from St. Thomas University. She taught primarily second and third grade in Edina Public Schools, and loved running into past students in other stages of life around town. She was a farm girl whose fondest memories were riding her horse around the arboretum in her hometown of Northfield. An avid bird watcher, flower enthusiast, and lover of people, she always had time to appreciate the beauty of the small things around her, and found them easily, even in the most seemingly mundane places. After retirement, she studied at Christos Center for Spiritual Formation and became a spiritual director, a role for which she was perfectly suited. Her gentle, ever present enthusiasm for her family, her church, and issues involving women and children will be missed.
